Late last week I was asked to take an electronic signature from a NDA web application I blogged about last year
and convert it to an Adobe Acrobat PDF. After spending a short while trying to find a direct BMP to PDF encoder of sorts,
I settled on, at least for this demo, a three-part conversion process. Using the same PNG encoder that I utilized to transform an NDA signature to a PNG, I passed the PNG binary data via that sweet AMF inherent to CFMX 7.0.2 and saved the PNG
to disk. In part two of the conversion, I pass the PNG filename, created in part one, to another CFC function that converts the PNG to a SVG file. Finally, the filename of the SVG is passed to a CFC function that
does the final conversion to a PDF file.
I already realize that this three-step process is a little bit whacked out, inefficient, and slower than it should be.
I would love to hear from anyone that has written an AS 3 class for Bitmap conversion to SVG, or Flash-vector conversion to SVG, or even better an AS 3 class for Flash-vector conversion directly to a PDF. :-)
