As you may know, the Flex UI can leverage Flash shared objects (call them Flash cookies if you like) for prefilling forms that a User may need to fill out when they visit your site. A login screen, for example, may be presented the first time with the traditional username/password challenge. For subsequent visits, you could fill the Username from the Flash shared object you stored on the User's PC the first time they logged in successfully. Here's an example:

I'm also using this method at work to store a User's last selections for combobox choices. In effect leveraging the shared object storage to remember the selectedIndex chosen most recently. Storing the selectedIndex instead of the usually more "lengthy" selectedItem keeps the shared object smaller. If I recall correctly, the normal size limitation for a domain's shared object (without prompting the User with a request for more room) is 100K. |
