Happy New Year with Flash Lite 3.1
Return   Back To Top
Happy New Year 2010! Combining the Flash Lite 3.1 Distributable Player, the Adobe Mobile Packager 1.1, the Flash Lite 3.1 update for Adobe Device Central CS4, Flash CS4, a bit of Perl and the Symbian SDK, and you have an easy way to create a mobile application. I created my second app (see screen captures, below) in a short amount of time and deployed it to my two Nokia phones - a N81 and a N95 - via a bluetooth connection.

The workflow I used to create the mobile application is shown below:

  • Installed the Adobe Mobile Packager 1.1 (it alerts you to any missing SDKs that you may need (e.g. Perl and Symbian SDK) and conveniently, includes direct links to any deficiencies it finds.

    * Originally, I was missing both Perl and the Symbian SDK, so I stepped through both of these installations quickly. Both installations were straight-forward.

Once the prerequisite requirements are met, you can test your installation, as shown in the screenshot below:

  • Next, I installed the Flash Lite 3.1 update for Adobe Device Central CS4. This allows you to test your Flash CS4 mobile applications in device simulators for your target mobile device(s).

  • Next, I authored my mobile content with Flash CS4.

  • Next, leveraging the Adobe Mobile Packager 1.1, I packaged my mobile application.

In case you need it, here is the Flash Lite Distributable Player for S60 mobile devices:

  • Finally, I deployed the packaged mobile application (I transferred via bluetooth) and installed on my two mobile devices (Nokia N81 8GB and Nokia N95 8 GB).

A screenshot of the mobile application is shown below:
